Ms.Witham told the class a speech about not listening to her instructions when writing or when your free spirit writing.  Near the end of class we had about 10 minute to start tying our Rough Draft if we haven't started and start typing our final draft.

Our week started out with the clouds eating up the sun, but Ms. Witham brought the sun into the classroom and brighten up our day. We started  by reading the poem "Caged Bird" by Maya Angelou, "The Eagle" by Alfred Lord Tennyson, and our new poem "We real cool" by Gwendolyn Brooks. Then Ms. Witham gave us time to work on our luminous passages. She passed out sheets of papers and she gave us examples on how it's supposed to look. Groups had time to work together and put their creativity to work. Most of the groups needed more time so she will give us time to work on it tomorrow. Our homework is to finish our luminous passage, and finish our wonderful drawings.

Nathan C's First Blog

Agenda:
   1. Poems
   2. Autobiographical Narrative ~ Examples/Guidelines/Prompts
   3. L.C. Work time:

      - Luminous Passages
          * P.E.E.L.

Homework:
   - Brainstorm A. N. (Autobiographical Narrative)
   - L. C. Work!

Today we started off with reading the poems, "Caged Bird" and our new poem "Lodged." Then we were given the guidelines to our Autobiographical Narrative Essay, and then we silently reviewed them, reading them over and forming any thoughts or questions about it. While this is happening, Ms. Witham reviewed the essay's guidelines, giving us notes and helping us understand it better. Then we were given an example of a narrative and read it together out loud. It was great. We talked about what made the essay stand out, especially the sensory details that captured how the writer felt so close to home at the beach.

We set up a new assignment in our Table of Contents naming it "Autobio. Narr. Brainstorm (at least 8 ideas)" on page 21. Since the project is due on Monday, we worked in our Literature Circle groups to work on our final project.

On today's cold Monday morning, we started of with reading our two poems. One new and one old. After that Ms. Witham explained today's agenda. Today was more of a pick and choose day. If we had already finished our books (which many people have) we could start our D.J. #2 or read an article from Upfront Magazine about the election taking place.
Next Ms. Witham explained our homework and what we need to have done. Our goal is still to finish our L.C. book by Thursday. Today we also have a make-up work party at lunch. There will be snacks and just extra time to do work that you haven't completed yet. We then looked at a D.J. that was above and beyond and lastly went back to our plot rollercoaster to add at least five notes.

- Reader's Theater (evidence gathering *note page #'s)
Homework
- Continue CEQ
  Goal: Full Page
- Type and Print R.A.

Since Ms. Witham believed we were ready for another poem, our class started to recite Shakespeare's "Sonnet 73" and discussed lines whose meanings weren't obvious to us. Then a couple people shared additional research they did for the CEQ and Ms. Witham shared news she heard about the Scott story.

Right after we jumped into Reader's Theater, so that the groups who didn't go yesterday could read out. We started with group 2 and ended with the first half of group 5. When groups finished reading their excerpts, Ms. Witham asked, "Is there anything you want to say about these passages?" and commented on what they read out.

3. Readers Theater
>Evidence gathering

Homework:
*Continue C.E.Q.
Goal:Full Page!
* Random Autobiography: Please type, read outloud, and print by Friday.

It was a very hot morning so we started by cooling down as we read our two poems. Shortly after that, we started something new in our notebooks, a Current Event Quickwrite. There are many things going on in our lives that we decided to write about, things such as bombings in NYC and NJ, Brangelina's divorce, Zika virus, etc. This Current Event Quickwrite went on the front of page 15 and could've been written in any form, I chose a poem but the rest of my group chose paragraphs. We also made sure to include a text connection from Malala or from any poem in our Quickwrites.

Let me say this, our class wasn't very brave today in sharing our quick writes but it was fine as Ms.Witham shared her own. Following this, we went back to Readers Theater and remembered the sections each group reserved. While we did this, we reviewed our sections and each group went up and read them.

We started this everyday morning by reading our two poems. Right after the two poems we jumped right into our R.A [Random Autobiography]. Ms.Witham made a small poster explaining what a R.A is and what should be included in our own. She made it clear to "Add sensory details!" right after her lecture she gave us around ten minutes to work on our R.A and add sensory details in a different color.

Once the ten minutes were up she told everyone to pick their favorite line and share within their groups, then we had to talk about what we need to do tonight for our R.A. Right after the talk we transitioned over to I am Malala and continued to work with our, "Save the last word" activity. Now that we finished the "Save the last word" activity Ms.Witham made another small poster explaining "How to have a Productive Group."

Today we formed groups, read our two poems out loud, and reviewed our blog.  We checked how many Dialectic Journals we have completed and worked on the ones we had not finished yet. After working on our D.J.s, we chose a passage from I Am Malala that was thought-provoking, and read it in our groups.  Each member in our groups shared their thoughts on their passages, considering one of the following: character, theme, conflict, or setting. After each member shared, they then read their responses to each other.

we got into some silent reading about 10-15 minutes. When we finished reading, we finally thought of a name!!!! “The Hundreds” (which should’ve been Supreme blog but James had to ruin it). We were given tips on a sheet of paper from Seniors here at Venice High school in order for us to succeed.
